Twin Cities Community Land Bank Receives Bremer Grant for Tornado Recovery

The Otto Bremer Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to TCC Land Bank to enhance efforts associated with tornado recovery in north Minneapolis. The disastrous tornado of May 22, 2011 impeded the community’s path to stabilization and recovery. The funds will support TCC Land Bank’s strategic acquisition activities and enable an increased volume of holding and land banking property for future development, aiding in the recovery of north Minneapolis. Twin Cities Community Land Bank Receives CDFI Award

TCC Land Bank is proud to be 1 of 155 Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) in 40 states and the District of Columbia to receive an award from the United States Department of Treasury. TCC Land Bank will receive $600,000 as a part of over $142 million awarded in the 2011 fiscal year round. Funds awarded to TCC Land Bank will support our community lending which is used as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth and development in the Twin Cities, particularly in low income communities and communities of color.

Students Graduate from Build Wealth’s Homebuyer Class

The President of the Twin Cities Community Land Bank, Becky Rom, and the entire staff wish to extend congratulations to Build Wealth Minnesota and its class of students that graduated on February 23, 2011. Build Wealth is a critical partner with TCC Land Bank as they work together to create the next generation of homebuyers. Build Wealth provides extensive financial literacy training, credit counseling, budgeting, and one-on-one counseling that can extend up to two years. It draws its classes from throughout the Twin Cities area. Located in the Minneapolis Urban League offices on Plymouth Avenue, Build Wealth draws families and individuals to its programs from primarily the African-American community.
